Education
Each season the McCoy Center hosts engaging and vibrant experiences, including student performances, resident arts group presentations, and incredible entertainers like The Indigo Girls and Mandy Patinkin.
In our 2019-20 season, Abercrombie & Fitch, The Superior Group and Kegler, Hill, Brown + Ritter supported the McCoy Center’s Educational Programming and provided provided meaningful arts experiences students in grades pre-K through 12 from New Albany-Plain Local School District. This season the McCoy Education Arts programs created more than 8,000 unique arts moments with students and educators. Partners included local organizations such as New Albany Ballet Academy; regional partners, such as BalletMet; and national groups, such as Electrify Your Strings.
Our 2019-2020 Season Included:
Band Guest Composer: James Swearingen
This two-day event included opportunities for 285 NAPLS Band students in grades 7-12 to work with composer James Swearingen to learn about playing music for the composer who wrote the music and about careers for musicians and composers. The workshop also included two performances held in the McCoy Center.
BalletMet Dance Residency
The McCoy welcomes gifts of stocks, bonds, and shares of mutual funds. By donating appreciated stocks directly to The McCoy, you can likely avoid capital gains taxes and help support the local arts. Your donation value will be reflected as the full air-market on the date the stock is liquidated by The McCoy, which is typically within 3 business days.

Electrify Your Strings
Student clinic for 800+ orchestra students in grades 5-12 and an evening performance at the McCoy Center for parents and the community, featuring performing a variety of styles and eclectic string music.
West African Drumming & Dance
Drummer Sogbety Diomande spent time with classes, teaching West African culture through music and dance to more than 1,750 students in grades 1-5.
Celebration of Diversity/Black History Month Program
The Black History Month Program involves student performers in grades 7-12, and assemblies held for all students in grades K-12, to highlight and celebrate the significant cultural contributions and achievements of African-Americans throughout history. An evening performance was held for several hundred parents and community members at the McCoy Center.
Carnival of the Animals
The annual Carnival of the Animals performance of 350 first grade students was moved to a virtual platform in the spring of 2020 with the help of New Albany Ballet Dance Academy.
Jazz Band Residency
40 New Albany High School students worked with guest artists Doug Neel, Ryan Hamilton and Michael Cox who are all professional musicians working and teaching in central Ohio at Capital University and with Columbus Jazz Orchestra.
